Hello Neighbours
There's something special about our city that keeps finding new life in old bricks. For example the Lister Block on the corner of James North and King William Street: the brown brick and white terracotta building, completed in 1924, closed after an economic downturn in 1995 before reopening in 2012 following a high-profile restoration. Today, the strip that it anchors has become one of Hamilton's hottest dining destinations, known simply as Restaurant Row (in fact some of these might be included in this month's Vibe Dinner Club on September 23rd). It's a reminder that in this city, the buildings that survive don't just get preserved, they get reinvented, filled with new menus, new energy, and new reasons to gather.
That spirit is alive and well this week, and it starts in Dundas, where we got to sit down at the newly opened Punky's Flat (3 Main St West), and it did not disappoint. Think best-in-class local brews, fine wines, cocktails done right, and a menu of delicious local fare that makes it an easy new favourite. And all in a newly renovated space with a unique style of its own. Read the full Vibe Restaurant Review for all the details on what to order.
Punky's Flat isn't the only newcomer worth your appetite this month. Hamilton's food scene keeps proving it has more range than any one strip of the city could hold. From a Parisian corner bakery to Italian gelato and espresso, from Jamaican-inspired dishes with bold flavour to beautifully built grazing tables you've got a month of openings that says a lot about where this city is headed: forward, but never far from its roots.
So whether you're pulling up a stool at a heritage building turned neighbourhood favourite or discovering a brand new spot that just opened its doors, let’s get out there and enjoy what Hamilton's food scene is building next. Here is our regular monthly full list of the new food and drinks places that opened in the last month as well as our full line up of over 150 events and 100+ live music gigs.
If you liked this week's issue please share it with your partner in ‘dine’ for chasing down a new place.
