Ugly Privilege

The vibe is quirky, loquacious and edgy.

A tiny creature appears on the stage, bespectacled with a bright red bow tie: like a “Chucky” doll but much cuddlier. You fight the urge to pinch her cheeks, but be forewarned that in a few short minutes, she will morph into a moose that sounds like the legions of hell.

This is standup comedian Jessica Pigeau in her storytelling, solo show, Ugly Privilege.   Jessica thanks us at the end of her set for joining an awkwardly autistic stranger for a night of comedy. However, don’t get the idea that her work focuses solely on autism. There is some personal reflection on the topic, but she quickly moves us to many different places where all audience members have a touchstone. She hits the east coast; a small town in Alberta, the father-daughter relationship, being bullied, being different and the list goes on.

Her perspectives are unique, and her humour is sharp. She captures that rare delivery that speaks the truth so plainly, there’s no way you can’t laugh. After a long day of life, I suggest you drop in and let her delight you with the unexpected. Or as she would say, “kill” you with laughter.
