The Fortune Teller

The vibe is good, clean entertainment - or is it?
Full disclosure: the playwright, David Dawson, is a friend of mine, and I had played the lead role in one of his earlier plays. So I was looking forward to this latest piece of work, directed by Ron Weihs.
Fortune telling is an interesting topic. It is forbidden under Islam and had been illegal under old British law. It is estimated that one in three Americans periodically consults a Tarot card reader, psychic or other such service provider.
Fortune telling has been likened to cognitive distortion, if not a disorder, and perhaps that is why Dawson, a psychiatrist, chose this topic. The acting is solid and flawless, and the play will leave you wondering as you check this off your list of Fringe shows to watch.

A Fortune Teller is about to start a séance when her teenage niece bursts in. "My mother says I have to live with you now." A client comes in, who wants to contact his late wife. The niece's no-good boyfriend turns up. And that's just for starters. A knockdown farce that has some clever things to say about youth, love, the Great Beyond, and the Here and Now.
