Liz, A Traumatic Comedy

The vibe of Liz: a Traumatic Comedy is brave personal sharing.

When theatre has been central to your life, and the time comes when you feel the need to speak your truth, taking your place on a stage can feel like coming home. That's what I saw happening in Liz: A Traumatic Comedy.

Liz begins with a scene from a time in her life when she was confident and fearlessly standing up for the rights of women and her own strong values. Once she embraced herself as a “ theatre kid,” she knew she'd found her passion. She showed kindness to every person, worked hard and brought enthusiastic positive energy to every project she worked on.

Then one weekend, someone she had trusted left her not only wishing but also “pretending it didn't happen.” As so many survivors do, Liz threw herself into the theatre work that she loves, until the trauma led to a new mental health challenge she could no longer ignore.

Most of the focus is on Liz’s journey of healing. She has done her work. Bravo to Liz for the bravery it takes to share her personal story about a mental health journey.

This performance is not a trauma dump, but rather a well reflected upon, vulnerable and interesting sharing of what Liz has learned through personal experience.
