Equal parts hilarious coming-of-age romp and poignant love story, Tracy Hamilton’s one-woman show will transport you from middle school to college, Toronto to San Diego, the closet to an all-women bisexual meet-up, denial to discovery, with little more than the power of her storytelling and the expressiveness of her face.

Oh, right—and the offstage voice of her gut, that she ignores to her detriment.

Tracy is charismatic and genuine. I felt part of her story from the first line, aww-ing at her confessions, booing the villains, clapping at her victories and laughing—right from my belly—at her jokes, which felt like naughty secrets spontaneously shared between friends.

What makes this play special is what’s left after the laughter subsides. Tracy’s message is simple. True love—for ourselves, most importantly—is out there, if we’re willing to learn, laugh and listen to our inside voices.

When I stood in unison with the rest of the audience to give Tracy a standing ovation, it was as much for the gift of that message as the play that delivered it.
