Big Chick Lethargy?!

The vibe of this show: fast and funny.

I liked this show. How do I know? Afterwards, back home and walking the dog, I was humming the finale.

Big Chick Energy, a five-woman sketch comedy troupe from Toronto, sang, danced, played guitar (and computer keyboards) in a frenetically-paced, laugh-out-loud series of vignettes that took the packed house at the Staircase Theatre from dead-end office jobs to zumba class. Periods, spanx, babies, adulting, body beautification, corporate life, doctor’s visits, aging parents, self-loathing—they all got the Big Chick treatment.

There’s a go-big-or-go-home quality to this group. Make no apologies, take no prisoners. It’s almost as if we crashed their slumber party, where they’re working through the energy-sucking aspects of their lives with each other using a hairbrush as a microphone. Of course, they want us to laugh. And we do. Loudly. But if we don’t, they’re having a great time anyway.

I think I’ll wear a beer shirt today.
