All The World’s A Cage
Reviewed by Isabella Stavropoulos
The Vibe of ‘All The World’s A Cage’ is disconcerting.
This play presents a layered view into the toxic power dynamics that can exist within the art world.
The show opens with an unruly character who addresses himself as the narrator as he dictates the character’s actions and emotions during the performance. When characters begin to wake up from the control, the narrator starts to unravel, creating more hostile environments as he takes advantage of his directorial power.
All The World's A Cage incorporates elements of interactive theatre that interrogate the relationship between artist and audience. As the show went on, as an audience member, I began to question my actions and the collective power that can influence the lives of many.
On opening night, the actors' performances were dynamic and energetic, demonstrating their range as actors as they changed between posh British accents and Canadian slang. If you love a dark comedy, this show delivers, opening the fourth wall into how entertainment is created and who gets to enjoy it.
I hope you read the fine print!
