The vibe of The Giant Space Monster That Ate Hamilton in 3-D is chaotic.
Upon receiving and opening your program to this show, you will find a pair of 3D glasses that not only help you read the 3D program cover, but can also be worn during the show. This immediately sets an ambiance of intrigue across the audience, and helps set the tone of the show.
The opening scenes starts with one of the two actors, Kristian Reimer, addressing the audience and preparing them for the show they’re about to witness. Quickly, the audience can relax and understand that this experience is going to be fun, light-hearted, and humorous, with the show feeling intimate as Reimer addresses the audience directly.
We then meet the second actor of this show, Larry Smith, whose impressive theatrical voice and 100% commitment to it throughout a monologue quickly introduces you to the range of characters you are about to witness come to life.
This show, complete with puppetry, takes you on a comedic sci-fi journey, framed with relatable Hamiltonian jokes. As Reimer and Smith describe it themselves in the program, the show is their ‘display of idiocy.’ The said idiocy and chaos that ensues throughout the show is truly just fun and wild to witness live.
These actors brought to their show a level of passion, joy, and commitment to the bit that I haven’t witnessed in theatre since high school. They are not afraid to look silly on stage, and this makes it all the more enjoyable for the audience to fall in love with multiple chaotic characters and believe in the story of Hamilton being attacked by a giant space monster.
