First Bite to Last Laugh

The vibe is playful.
The great thing about Fringe is that you never know what you’re going to get (especially when you are assigned shows to review). First Bite to Last Laugh is a pure stand-up comedy showcase hosted by emcee Sharmain Ehi, who warmed up the audience with some friendly Brampton vs. Hamilton banter and confessional material about dating, mental health and racial dynamics.
Cathy Boyd, who you might know from Canada’s Got Talent, delivered witty observational one-liners about being an older white woman in an almost Steven Wright-level deadpan.
Black Zeus delivered a tight, well-constructed set on what they don’t tell you about the journey of healing from childhood trauma.
Chris Robinson closed out the set with a playful exploration of the challenges of fatherhood, including how children get in the way of the act of making more children.
In their own distinct ways, Ehi, Boyd, Zeus and Robinson all held the room in their hands. The jokes landed and the audience leaned into the material.
The comedian line up rotates throughout Fringe.
