The vibe of DND Live: Camp DieNoMore is “adventure-comedy.”

For many people, Dungeons and Dragons is probably something you’ve heard of in
passing, but never really learned the details of. Nerds and/or geeks play it, you play a
character, there’s a lot of complex rules involved. There’s plenty of ways to get an entry-
level glimpse of DnD, but few of these ever capture the feeling of a real campaign.

DnD Live, however, is a play that manages to do just that. It’s centered on a group of
five children visiting the eponymous Camp DieNoMore: a fantasy-medieval summer
camp for future adventurers and heroes. Five of the performers act as these main
characters, while a sixth acts as the adventure’s narrator and host.

Like any DnD session, this show is improvised role-playing at its heart. While the setting
and its inhabitants are developed in advance, the heroes’ actions determine in real time
how the story will unfold. Also like a DnD session, they'll periodically roll dice to
determine whether or not they can succeed in a given action, adding another variable to
the show’s improvised elements.

As someone who plays DnD and other games of that nature, I was very impressed with
how much DnD Live felt like an actual gameplay session.

Things are heavily condensed for the sake of time, but it perfectly captures the energy
of six friends playing Dungeons and Dragons together. The rolls are there, the
storytelling there, and the feeling of sitting down for a gameplay session with some
friends is definitely there. It's a solid entry-level experience if you just want a taste of
what DnD is like — and if you're an experienced player, you’ll have that much more of
an appreciation for the DnD gameplay aspects. So, regardless of which camp you fall
into, I’d recommend you give Camp DieNoMore a visit.
