The vibe is humorous and clever.

From the funny initial request to turn off our cell phones, the audience is immediately transported back to the 1800s to witness exactly what you imagine a traveling medium and séance show might be like.

Woven into the onstage séance is the story of the two sisters and the potential end of their professional relationship. The actors do a great job of portraying sibling rivalry, making us all witnesses to their drama unfolding against a backdrop of trying to speak to the spirits.

There is some highly effective and funny use of props and lighting, both as the sisters question their charlatan ways and when we are suddenly presented with potentially real spirits in our midst.

The script is well thought through, featuring a few giggly, raunchy comments and clever asides to audience members called upon for participation. Additionally, a rewritten, clever song-and-dance routine from a well-known musical was a literal foot-tapping moment.

When I attended, the show was a sellout and I ended up near the back. At times, the dialogue was a little hard to catch; the powerful sound system at Mills Hardware could have used a little dampening so we could hear the actors more clearly over the effects.

Overall, this is an enjoyable and fun tale with a sharp script, delivered with thoughtful, well-rehearsed stage management.

Note: Because the show was a sellout when I went, it’s clearly a popular choice for Fringers, so book early! Also, the venue's air conditioning was cranking. Halfway through, myself and a number of other patrons had to don sweaters and jackets, so prepare to dress warmly!
